Hyderabad Chapter Meeting with Mr. Jonathan Heimer, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs, U.S. Embassy – 29 November 2022

AMCHAM’s Hyderabad Chapter organized a meeting at Medtronic in Hyderabad on November 29th with Mr. Jonathan Heimer, Honorary National Executive Board Member, AMCHAM and Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs, U.S. Embassy. He was accompanied by Mr. Andrew Edlefsen, Principal Commercial Officer, U.S. Consulate General Hyderabad. Mr. Prakash Bodla, Chairman – Hyderabad Chapter, AMCHAM and MD, Carrier Technologies welcomed him and led the discussion on a wide range of topics including, manufacturing, GCCs and the economy, among others.

On November 28th, AMCHAM members interacted with Mr. Tarun Chhabra, Senior Director for Technology and National Security, National Security Council, Executive Office of the President, Ms. Helena Fu, Director for Technology and National Security, National Security Council, Executive Office of the President and Ms. Kathleen Stevens, Office of the Science and Technology Cooperation, U.S. Department of State in New Delhi on various topics ranging from semiconductors, AI, quantum, space, defense innovation, biotechnology and open-RAN. Members enjoyed the opportunity to interact candidly with the visiting delegation and shared views on these topics while seeking advice.

Energy Committee Meeting

On November 25th, AMCHAM’s Energy Committee met virtually to discuss the way forward for the committee. Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM opened the discussion and welcomed participants. Mr. Chirag Baijal, Co-Chairman – Energy Committee, AMCHAM and Managing Director HVAC region, Carrier Airconditioning and Refrigeration Limited, very briefly laid out the way forward for the committee and urged members to support the secretariat to take forward the charter. Each member addressed present issues and policy points that needed to be taken up.

Eastern Region Executive Committee Meeting

AMCHAM’s Eastern Region Executive Committee held a meeting on November 25th at the PwC office in Kolkata. Mr. Atanu Mukherjee, Chairman – Eastern Region, AMCHAM welcomed members and opened discussions on the forthcoming Eastern Region signature event for which members shared their thoughts. The event would be held on March 16th, 2023 with the theme ‘Accelerating Energy Transition, Accelerating Growth: What Does it Take from a Policy, Technology, Economics and International Collaboration Perspective?’

Karnataka Chapter Executive Committee Meeting– 24th November 2022

AMCHAM’s Karnataka Chapter held an Executive Committee meeting on November 24th in Bengaluru to discuss important chapter related matters. An overview of membership status, which included new members and resigned members, was shared. Past events and upcoming meetings, status of AMCHAM’s Golf Tournament and engagement with the state government and U.S. Consulate, were discussed. Mr. Anshuman Appanna, Regional Director – Karnataka Chapter, AMCHAM was introduced to members of the Executive Committee in Karnataka.

Pre-Budget Meeting on Union Budget 2023-24 with Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India – 23 November 2022

AMCHAM was invited to the pre-budget meeting on Union Budget 2023-24 on November 23rd by the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. The meeting was held under the chairpersonship of Mr. Nitin Gupta, Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance. AMCHAM made a presentation on direct and indirect tax recommendations based on the detailed suggestions received from members earlier and submitted to the Department of Revenue on November 4th. Wg Cdr Rajiv Anand, Program Director, AMCHAM gave opening remarks, Ms. Neeru Ahuja, Chairperson – Tax, Tariff and Regulatory Affairs Committee, AMCHAM and Partner, Deloitte India covered the direct tax suggestions and Ms. Garima Pande, Co-Chairperson – Tax, Tariff and Regulatory Affairs Committee, AMCHAM and Partner & National Leader, Global Compliance and Reporting, Ernst & Young, covered the indirect tax suggestions, followed by an interactive discussion.
