Interactive Session on Cyber Security in Compliance & Investigations

The Anti-Corruption & FCPA Compliance Committee organized an interactive session on ‘Cyber Security in Compliance & Investigations’ on November 26th. Mr. Gaurav Ajmani, Chairman – Anti-Corruption & FCPA Compliance Committee, AMCHAM and Associate General Counsel, Business Conduct & Ethics, Amazon Seller Services gave the opening remarks and introduced the speaker. The guest speaker was Mr. Ranjeeth Bellary, Associate Partner, Forensic & Integrity Services, EY. The session focused on the emergence of cyber threats as the new normal and why every business must have a good strategy to combat such threats. The presentation covered global threat environment, emergence of ransomware, impact of COVID-19 on cyber security, global privacy regulations, India specific regulations on cyber reporting, the process of breach and the parties involved, gathering evidence in remote investigations and the challenges involved. Mr. Bellary also shared case studies on phishing, data theft and ransomware and suggested best practices to the participants. The presentation was followed by a Q&A session with participants. Mr. Gaurav Ajmani gave the concluding remarks.

Karnataka Chapter Executive Committee Meeting

AMCHAM’s Karnataka Chapter held an Executive Committee meeting on November 26th. The meeting was focused on the existing membership status and how to increase the membership count of the chapter. In addition, the upcoming Christmas Carnival 2020 and the Golf Tournament 2021 were discussed. The next meeting will be held on December 11th.

US India Travel & Tourism Working Group Meeting

AMCHAM’s U.S.-India Travel & Tourism Working Group hosted a catch up call on November 24th. The discussion was centered on the resumption of international business and leisure travel to the United States. Brand USA talked about the resumption of travel partners in pushing travel to the USA followed by Marriott and Hyatt sharing updates on the U.S. market. The U.S. Embassy would be checking on the resumption of visa services. An interaction will be hosted in early 2021 for working group members with the Consular section and airlines with services to the U.S. on resumption of visa services and flights respectively. Ease of Doing Business Roundtable

AMCHAM organized an ease of doing business roundtable with DPIIT on November 20th. The event was chaired by Ms. Manmeet Nanda IAS, Joint Secretary, DPIIT and was attended by various industry leaders from amongst members. The roundtable offered an opportunity for interaction with DPIIT, discussing current issues that require attention as well as exchanging thoughts on documenting some issues in the form of representations to the GoI.

Issues in IT, ESDM, medical devices, pharma, aviation and defense and agriculture and food processing sectors were presented and discussed by AMCHAM. For a comprehensive discussion on concerns projected, functionaries from various Departments and Ministries were also present. The meeting enabled achievement of clarity of thought on tabled concerns and possible government interventions were highlighted. Follow up action as discussed in the meeting has commenced. The event was coordinated by Invest India, the nodal agency for interaction with DPIIT.

CSR Committee Meeting

AMCHAM’s CSR Committee met for under the leadership of Mr. Harish Krishnan, Chairman – CSR Committee, AMCHAM and Managing Director, Public Affairs & Strategic Engagements, Cisco India & SAARC, Cisco Systems (India) and Ms. Kshitija Krishnaswamy, Co-Chairperson – CSR Committee, AMCHAM and Managing Director – Corporate Citizenship, Accenture Solutions on November 20th. The meeting focused on the planning of AMCHAM’s 3rd CSR Conference: Capacity Building in the CSR Ecosystem for Self-Reliant India which will be held in January 2021 over a two day span. The potential session themes discussed include understanding new regulations that affect CSR, reimagining livelihoods post the pandemic, opportunities and innovation beyond relief: resilience and recovery, maximizing CSR impact through collaboration and innovative financing. USAID’s recently launched REVIVE Alliance was briefly discussed. Members actively shared top of mind CSR challenges during COVID, what companies are doing to fight the pandemic and possible speaker suggestions for the conference.

Towards Resilient Workplaces & Cities: The Science of Preventing Infections: Safe Air, Food, Water & Hand Hygiene in partnership with 3M – 20 November 2020

AMCHAM’s Karnataka Chapter in partnership with 3M hosted the first of a 3 part webinar series with subject matter experts from 3M entitled ‘Towards Resilient Workplaces & Cities: The Science of Preventing Infections: Safe Air, Food, Water & Hand Hygiene’ on November 20th. The session focused on the concern around the potential spread of infection through various mediums like food, air, water and hand hygiene which is rapidly increasing. The session highlighted that it was critical for businesses to implement health, hygiene and safety practices as per global standards to ensure the wellbeing of every individual. The session talked about specific focus areas like modes of transmission of infectious diseases, microbes and COVID-19, safe air by using filters, safe touch through practicing hand hygiene, safe food by monitoring food safety and safe water using filters. The speakers were Ms. Kavitha Kulkarni, Head-Scientific Affairs & Education, 3M Food Safety Division & Medical Solutions Division, Dr. Prabha Hegde, General Manager, Medical Solutions Division, Mr. Anil Krishnan, Senior Application Engineer, 3M Separation and Purification Sciences Division and Ms. Smitha Gopalkrishnan, Manager, Corporate Affairs. The session was very well received with participants from various member companies like Synopsys, Swagelok, First American, Morgan Stanley and others. The next session in this 3 part series will be held in December on ‘The Science of Clean.’
