AMCHAM’s U.S.-India Travel & Tourism Working Group conducted a meeting over conference call to discuss the current scenario of the travel industry, with a specific focus on travel from India to the U.S. The conference call was attended by USG Honorary Chair Ms. Aileen Nandi, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs, U.S. Embassy, Industry Chair Ms. Sheema Vohra, Managing Director – India, Brand USA, Mr. Anup Taneja, Director Global Sales, Marriott International and Mr. Pukhraj Joneja, Head Products and Industry Relations, FCM India.

Interpreting DoJ’s Guidelines on Evaluating Corporate Compliance Programs – 17th July 2020

AMCHAM’s Anti-Corruption & FCPA Compliance Committee organized a webinar on Interpreting DoJ’s Guidelines on Evaluating Corporate Compliance Programs on July 17th. Mr. Sumit Makhija, Partner – Forensic Financial Advisory, India, Deloitte was the expert speaker. Mr. Gaurav Ajmani, Chairman – Anti-Corruption & FCPA Compliance Committee, AMCHAM and Associate General Counsel: Business Conduct & Ethics, Amazon Seller Services (P) Ltd. welcomed participants. The webinar focused on the interpretation of the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) guidelines to help organizations improve their compliance programs and plug gaps, if any.

Mr. Makhija gave an overview of the guidance note issued by the DoJ, interpretation of the revised guidance and what it would mean for companies. He discussed practices to ascertain the strength of current compliance programs with the guidance and also interacted with participants. The webinar concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Bhawna A. Ranganadhan, Co- Chairperson – Anti-Corruption & FCPA Compliance Committee, AMCHAM and Vice President, Legal and Compliance, Genpact. Around 50 participants attended the webinar.

Karnataka Chapter Executive Committee Meeting – 16th July 2020

AMCHAM’s Karnataka Chapter Executive Committee held a meeting over Webex on July 16th. The focus of the conversation was on how the Karnataka chapter could engage members and drive value during the current COVID-19 lockdown crisis with interesting webinars and speakers and chapter engagement with the Government of Karnataka. Measures to expand AMCHAM’s awareness and engagement with non-member companies to create new members were also discussed. Sponsorship opportunities for AGM 2020, AMCHAM’s NextGen Leadership Program 2020-21 and the American League were highlighted.

Meeting with Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade – 15th July 2020

AMCHAM’s Medical Technology Working Group met with Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on July 15th over video call. The meeting agenda was to introduce AMCHAM and how U.S. medical technology companies have been committed to India. AMCHAM members shared a Medtech presentation with DPIIT which focused on the impact of Health Cess to date, discussion on the way forward, stable policy road map leading to ease of doing business and the Public Procurement Order.

AMCHAM members pointed out the current situation of the Medtech industry and issues faced. It was a positive engagement with Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra and he encouraged members to come up with innovative solutions to the challenges faced by industry. AMCHAM thanked Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra for addressing members and for his valuable inputs.

India Post COVID-19: Workplace Readiness for the Future – a Facilities Management Perspective – 10th July 2020

AMCHAM, in collaboration with CBRE, organized a webinar on ‘India Post COVID-19: Workplace Readiness for the Future – a Facilities Management Perspective’ on July 10th. The webinar delved into the approach and initiatives organizations would need to welcome their employees, customers and visitors back to their businesses. The session also highlighted some of the best practices and learnings for property and facility management. The implications of COVID-19 have been profound and the path to business recovery is evolving and fluid. The outbreak has acted as a catalyst for change and has reiterated the need to pay attention to how facilities are being managed and how services are being delivered. All work environments, owned or leased offices, warehouses, retail stores or manufacturing facilities, would require careful consideration and tailored plans.

This webinar also highlighted and reinforced the role of FM services and how this role will become more strategic and long-term in nature with facets like building trust, employee wellness and safety gaining all the more prominence. The speakers included Mr. Rajesh Pandit, Managing Director Global Workplace Solutions and Property Management, CBRE South Asia, Mr. Ashish Podar, Executive Director Global Workplace Solutions, CBRE South Asia and Mr. Sumit Arora, Head, National Operations, Consulting, CBRE South Asia. The webinar was attended by companies like Swagelok, Synopsys, Inteva Products, Teleflex, Optum, First American and others.

Welcome Wellness at the Workplace – an initiative of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee – 10th July 2020

On July 10th, AMCHAM’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee organized a webinar on ‘Welcome Wellness at the Workplace.’ The session commenced with opening remarks by Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM, followed by an address by Ms. Kaku Nakhate, Vice Chairperson, AMCHAM, Chairperson – Diversity & Inclusion Committee, AMCHAM and President & Country Head, India, Bank of America N.A. While emphasizing on the need for leaders to involve themselves in the D&I agenda, Ms. Nakhate shared an overview of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee and highlighted Bank of America’s initiative that focusses on the emotional, physical and financial wellness of employees. This was followed by an address by Mr. David J. Ranz, Consul General, U.S. Consulate General Mumbai and Honorary USG Co-Chairperson – Diversity & Inclusion Committee, AMCHAM. Through his address Consul General Ranz highlighted the Consulate’s initiatives such as regular townhalls to address employee concerns and conversations leading to constructive actions on best practices and inclusion. He also stated that the Consulate engages with the larger public on these issues and organizes programs on mental health strategies.

 

As part of the panel discussion industry experts Ms. Kanika Tewari, Founder, GoDiverse, Mr. Amber Alam, Director – EAP & Wellness Services India and Asia Pacific, Optum Health – Prevention and Wellbeing and Ms. Neelam Vaswani, Lead, Global Health Services, Johnson & Johnson Pvt. Ltd. actively discussed sensitization on mental health, mental wellbeing in the Indian context, the gendered impact of coronavirus, adversity quotient and an integrated approach to the culture of health and mental wellbeing. The panel was moderated by Dr. Vandita Gupta, Chapter Leader – Differently Abled Chapter of the D&I Committee, AMCHAM and Franchise Head, Global Public Health (IDV) and Metabolics, Janssen India, Johnson & Johnson Pvt. Ltd. A brief Q&A session followed. The webinar concluded with closing remarks and vote of thanks by Mr. Sudhir Shenoy, CEO, Dow Chemical International Private Limited.
