Learning & Sharing Session on ‘Sales & Operations Planning in Supply Chain Management’ – 28th September 2017

AMCHAM India’s Supply Chain and Logistics Committee organized a learning and sharing session on ‘Sales & Operations Planning in Supply Chain Management’ on Thursday, 28th September 2017 at the Deloitte Office in Gurgaon. The event commenced with opening remarks by Ms. Surabhi Wahal, Regional Director – Western Region, AMCHAM India followed by welcome remarks by Mr. Srinivasan Sarangapani, Chairman – Supply Chain and Logistics Committee, AMCHM and Director Operations, Timken Engineering & Research India Pvt. Ltd.

The highlight of the event was an expert talk on ‘Sales & Operations Planning in Supply Chain Management’ by Ms. Neha Chaturvedi, Pre Sales LoB Solutions, SAP, who shed light on the S&OP trends, competitive customers across the industry, supply chain ‘control tower,’ short term demand sensing, collaborations across multiple levels of S&OP in the organization and inventory planning. Through a discussion she focused on the practical aspects of sales and operations planning in achieving the business objectives of profitability and productivity.

As part of the industry sharing session at the event, Mr. Umesh Madhyan, National Head Infrastructure and Logistics, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd., through a presentation, shared a broad dos and don’ts of various FMCGs put together from forecasting and S&OP point of view. He also touched upon single touch logistics, S&OP best practices and rules followed by Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd. The interactive session answered several queries on the subject and supply chain leaders of AMCHAM member companies shared individual insights and learnings on S&OP planning.

The session concluded with remarks by Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM, who thanked the speakers and the participants for joining, and stated that it was indeed a great learning experience.

Supply Chain and Logistics Committee Meeting – 28th September 2017

AMCHAM’s Supply Chain and Logistics (SCL) Committee Meeting was held on Thursday, 28th September 2017 at the Deloitte India office in Gurgaon. The meeting commenced with opening remarks by Ms. Surabhi Wahal, Regional Director – Western Region, AMCHAM India and welcome remarks by Mr. Srinivasan Sarangapani, Chair- Supply Chain & Logistics Committee, AMCHAM India and Director Operations, Timken Engineering & Research India Pvt. Ltd. A special address was made by Ms. Ranjana Khanna, Director General CEO, AMCHAM India.
Members discussed a range of issues from preparation of a white paper representing key issues of the industry to be presented to key stakeholders from the Government of India, GST, e-way bill and proposed industry visits as a best practice sharing initiative. Participants brainstormed on forthcoming events and successfully put together a calendar of events running up to the SCL committee annual event planned in April 2018.
It was decided by consensus to hold the next meeting of the committee as a joint meeting of AMCHAM’s Supply Chain and Logistics committee and AMCHAM’s Manufacturing committee in November 2017 in Chennai. Members believed, this would be a great platform for a continued engagement with industry leaders and to build synergies and partnerships between the two committees!

On 27th September, AMCHAM’s Defense Committee members met with Dr. Joseph Felter, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Defense, South and South Asia, to hear more about the U.S. government’s views and perceptions on the U.S. – Indian defense sector in light of the recent government interactions between U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis and Raksha Mantri Nirmala Sitharaman during Secretary Mattis’s visit to India. Dr. Felter discussed the U.S. – India Joint Statement issued by Secretary Mattis and Minister Sitharaman and its implications to the U.S. defense industry players with respect to their business in India. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Pratyush Kumar, Chairman, AMCHAM and President of Boeing India.

AMCHAM India, in partnership with Deloitte India, organized a webcast on ‘Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) – India Spotlight Adoption and Enforcement Actions’ on Tuesday, 26th September 2017. The webinar commenced with opening remarks by Ms. Surabhi Wahal, Regional Director – Western Region, AMCHAM India. This was followed by Mr. Samir Gandhi, Partner, Deloitte India, setting the stage as well as introducing of the speakers.

The experts from Deloitte, Mr. Rajesh Gandhi and Mr. Rohan Phatarphekar, took the participants through a valuable and detailed analysis of the implications of the BEPS action plans, highlighting treaty abuse, permanent establishment, intangibles, digital economy, transfer pricing documentation, equalization levy and country-by-country reporting. The session created a productive platform for gaining valuable insights on BEPS for companies with business operations in India and an understanding of the global scenario. The session concluded with closing remarks by Mr. Samir Gandhi, who thanked participants for joining the session and AMCHAM India for the opportunity to partner on this significant topic.

Karnataka Executive Committee Meeting – 26th September 2017

AMCHAM’s Karnataka Chapter Executive Committee meeting was held on 26th September 2017 at the Synopsys India office. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Iqbal Sait, Chairman – Karnataka Chapter, AMCHAM and Head of Asia Operations for Saggezza Inc. The Executive Committee members included Mr. Paresh Shah, Vice Chairman – Karnataka Chapter, AMCHAM and General Manager, Syniverse Technologies, Dr. Pradip Dutta, Managing Director, Synopsys India, Mr. Sanjay Koul, Chairman – Manufacturing Committee, AMCHAM and Managing Director, Timken India Limited, Mr. Naresh Shah, President, Hewlett Packard India Software Operation Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Atul Ujagar, Country Director, Nike Sourcing India, Mr. Indraneel Chaudhury, Executive Director, PwC, Mr. Amit Sharma, COO, IBM, and Mr. Munesh Makhija, Vice President – GE India Technology Centre.

There was a brief discussion on the events held in the previous two months, especially the meetings with the new Consul General Robert Burgess and the new Commercial Consul Mr. James Fluker from the U.S. Consulate Chennai. Dr. Pradip Dutta welcomed everyone to the Synopsys office. There was a discussion on how to position AMCHAM Karnataka and what should be the focus of the chapter during the year. It was decided that the chapter would focus on (1) CSR (2) take up infrastructure issues with the government and (3) interact with the consulate on visa issues. It was also proposed that we focus on the ease of doing business in the state. The U.S. India Strategic Partnership Forum and the Global Entrepreneurs Summit in Hyderabad in November were also discussed. Preparations for the AMCHAM – Timken Golf Tournament were then reviewed.
