Securing Digital India – 19 December  2017

AMCHAM’s Cyber Security Committee, in partnership with Dell, organized a roundtable on ‘Securing Digital India’ with key stakeholders, decision makers and industry leaders.

Mr. Arijit Sen, Co-Chairman – Cyber Security Committee, and Director – Global Government Relations & Public Policy, Dell, gave opening remarks. This was followed by remarks by Mr. Robert Garverick, Minister Counselor Economic Affairs and Environment, Science and Technology, U.S. Embassy, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Verma, Additional Secretary (Cyber Diplomacy), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, Mr. Pratyush Kumar, Chairman, AMCHAM India, President, Boeing India, Dr. C. S. Mohapatra, Adviser
(Financial Stability) and Secretary of Financial Stability & Development Council (FSDC), Department of Economic Affairs, Government of India and Mr. Ravinder P. Singh, Director Strategic & Mega Business, Dell EMC.

AMCHAM organized its annual Christmas Ball on 16th December 2017 in New Delhi. Meeting with Mr. Nripendra Misra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister – 14th December 2017

A one-to-one meeting between AMCHAM – AdvaMed member Medtronic and Mr. Nripendra Misra was organized on December 14th, 2017. Mr. James Southwick,Vice President, Global Government Affairs met with the Principal Secretary as a follow up to AMCHAM-AdvaMed delegation meeting in October. The discussion included a presentation on the ‘Global Medical Devices Industry Footprint in India’ survey data to the Principal Secretary and how to make quality medical technologies affordable to all. Mr. Misra also requested the association to reach out to its members to consider investing in manufacturing facilities in India and requested suggestions on achieving universal healthcare and access to primary care for the Indian population. AdvaMed-AMCHAM offered to work with its members and prepare a position paper for consideration by the Principal Secretary in coming weeks.

Energy Cooperation Program (ECP) Meeting – 14th December 2017

An Energy Cooperation Program (ECP) meeting was held on 14th December 2017 in New Delhi. Ms. Madhvi Kataria, Deputy Director General, AMCHAM, welcomed members and Mr. Rajendra Shrivastav, Chairman – Energy Cooperation Program, AMCHAM and Country Manager (India), AES India Pvt. Ltd. gave the opening remarks.

From USTDA, Ms. Alissa Lee, Country Manager, South Asia and Ms. Mehnaz Ansari, Country Representative – South Asia, joined the meeting over a call and updated members on the U.S. Gas Infrastructure Exports Initiative and Standards and Conformance Cooperation Program (SCCP) workshops planned in 2018. Ms. Dinah McDougall, Commercial Officer, U.S. Embassy, shared details on the upcoming Smart Grid & Energy Storage Trade Mission planned for March 2018.

The other topics of discussion included key trade issues affecting energy companies in India, Clean Energy Task Force and upcoming Energy Dialogue 2018. It was decided during the meeting that AMCHAM would create a document which would include opportunities and challenges of all ECP member companies to be shared with the Commercial Affairs Section and Department of Energy Affairs, U.S. Embassy.

CSR Session – Reaching Your Impact – 12th December 2017

AMCHAM’s Karnataka Chapter, organized a CSR session entitled ‘Reaching Your Impact’ in association with ChildFund India on Tuesday, December 12th, 2017. The Embassy Group sponsored the event at the Hilton Golf Links. Ms. Shaina Ganapathy, Head of Corporate Outreach, Embassy Group, welcomed participants from leading U.S. companies based in Bangalore. Mr. Atul Ujagar, Country Director, Nike India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan and Executive Committee Member – Karnataka Chapter, AMCHAM Karnataka, gave the opening remarks with a brief on AMCHAM and Nike’s CSR activities. The keynote speaker was Dr. Manoj Chakravarti, COO, Centre for Corporate Governance & Citizenship, IIMB, and he spoke about the CSR law and its implementation, successes and challenges.

This was followed by a panel discussion that deliberated on some critical areas such as sharing learnings and expertise on CSR accounting, assessments and reporting, challenges and opportunities with CSR, CSR policy vs. key sustainable development goals, models for collaborations, and employee engagement. The panellists included Mr. Biren Ghose, Country Head, Technicolor, Mr. Dushyant Singh, Senior Advisor, McKinsey & Co., Mr. Santosh Abraham, VP, NASSCOM Foundation, Mr. Venkatesh Valluri, Chairman, Valluri Technology Accelerators & Valluri Change Foundation and Ms. Neelam Makhijani, Country Director/CEO, ChildFund India. Mr. Raju Shahani, Managing Director, Christel House India, moderated the panel. This was followed by an interactive session with the audience. Ms. Makhijani wrapped up the session and said that AMCHAM could collaborate with NGOs and corporates to tackle some of the challenges facing the implementation of the CSR law.

Meeting with Ms. Radha S. Chauhan, CEO, Government e-Market – 12th December 2017

A few members of AMCHAM met with Ms. Radha S. Chauhan, CEO, Government e-Market, (GeM) on December 12th, 2017 in her office. Members shared their experiences with the Government e-Market portal and requested for guidelines to streamline the process, rate contracts, add new products and new companies and allow for change in prices. Ms. Radha S. Chauhan said that they were looking into all these issues and requested for information from members to make the GeM portal more effective and transparent.
