Interactive session on “Changing Landscape of Higher Education Globally” at Hyatt Regency Kolkata, 24th July 2015  – 24 July 2015

Breakfast interactive session on the “Changing Landscape of Higher Education globally” and the crucial requirement of bridging the education-to-employment gap, and how to connect employers into the Higher Education process. Graham Doxey, the Founder of Knod Global Learning Network was the guest speaker.

Graham, formerly of Merrill Lynch and Lehman Brothers, explained how he pioneered an experiential learning model for Computer Science graduates in the United States, and also implemented this in a wider scale when he was the CEO of Laureate Education in Asia. Knod seeks to connect Employers and Educators and to put their requirements at the heart of the education process. The theme of Graham Doxey presentation was “Closing the Education-to-Employment Gap” Graham spoke about how Educators and Employers can come together to develop the right skills and competencies, and thereby, closing the skills gap and solving the retention problem. Mr. Dinesh Agarwal, Chairman AmCham Eastern Region gave the welcome remarks; Amada Kidwai Regional Director AmCham Eastern Region did the introductions. The Concluding remark was given by Mr. K.P. Sengupta, Executive Committee member.

“Smart Cities Mission 2015”- Coordination and Review Call

A Teleconference call on “Smart cities Mission 2015” was organized by AmCham’s Smart Cities & Infrastructure committee on July 16. The call was held at the request of the committee members to know the status of Government-to-Government level consultations taking place in the three cities of Vizag, Allahabad and Ajmer.US Government participants from FCS, Mr. John McCaslin, Minister Counsellor, and USTDA Regional Director, Mr. Henry Steingass, updated the participating US private sector companies on their recent discussions and follow up developments post the signing of the three MOUs between the States of Telengana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The roles of various agencies involved in multiple stages of developments was discussed. A walk- through of the recently launched Smart Cities mission was also provided by Shivani Raina, Program Director, AmCham India and members queries on the various aspects of the Mission were addressed as appropriate. The participating companies included IBM, UTC, CISCO, UL, Corning, HP,AECOM, Ch2m Hill etc.
