9th Healthcare Conference

AMCHAM’s 9th Healthcare Conference was held on August 27th on a virtual platform with the theme ‘Challenges in Digital Healthcare’ with an underlying focus on healthcare for all – affordability, accessibility, awareness. The inaugural session was opened by Mr. Prakash Bodla, Chairman – Hyderbad Chapter, AMCHAM and Managing Director, Carrier Technologies India Ltd. He welcomed the gathering and spoke on the importance of digital health, staying ahead of the curve in terms of digital strategy and throwing a mix of innovation into healthcare and hoped the conference would not only define the areas of action but also propose strategies for accomplishing those objectives.

The guest of honor Consul General Joel Reifman, U.S. Consulate General Hyderabad spoke on the accelerating need for healthcare and bringing state-of-the-art healthcare and how the U.S.-India partnership had continued enhancing during COVID times. Mr. Mani Prakash, VP Enterprise R&D, Medtronic spoke on data enabled healthcare opportunities and how artificial intelligence, robotic-assisted surgery, and data analytics are creating a bold new era in personalized medicine. He touched on how smaller devices, enhanced visualization and super charged batteries support early detection and treatment. It’s clear that innovations will drive opportunities in healthcare with data enabled innovation is the future of healthcare.

This was followed by two panel discussions. Panel 1, Technology & Patient Centeredness, was moderated by Mr. Ritesh Dogra AVP, Indegene and supported by Mr. Divya Prakash Joshi of Medtronic, Mr. Vivek Srivastava of Healthcare @Home and Mr. Ashwin Naik of Manah Wellness (dealing with mental health). The panel spoke on the interoperability, interconnectivity and interplay needed between technology and stake holders and how patients of the future will control healthcare technologies that would drive healthcare outside hospitals. Digital wellness is now mainstream and collaboration is the key.

Panel 2, Tech Innovation in Healthcare, was moderated by Dr. Ambuj Chaturvedi, Sr. VP, IKP Knowledge Park supported by Mr. Karthik Duddala of Parexel, Ms. Neelima Dwivedi of MSD, Mr. Ratan Jalan of Medium Consulting and Mr. Aakash Ganju of Saathealth. With technology as an import part of healthcare, the panel discussed how health-tech should learn from consumer tech, how the PPP model will drive digital healthcare and help explore different partnership models. The panel agreed that healthcare will have to work on capability building and training programs.

Digital Change: The Role of Finance in Creating Value

AMCHAM’s Karnataka Chapter hosted a webinar on ‘Digital Change: The Role of Finance in Creating Value’ on August 25th, in partnership with member company IMA (Institute of Management Accountants). The event featured a conversation with Ms. Liv Watson and Mr. Jeywardhan Semwal focussed on how digital transformation is impacting finance, how finance can leverage digital transformation to its advantage and predictions on how the finance governance landscape would change due to digital transformation. The session touched upon how environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues factor into corporate performance and can no longer be seen as “soft” reputational issues to be handled by public relations but rather a dialogue for executive management. The global experts and speakers for the session Ms. Liv Watson and Mr. Jeywardhan Semwal covered what the impact of impending regulation means for management with new pressures to measure, disclose and improve on ESG-related issues have been coming from multiple vectors and market dynamics driving dynamic shifts.

Western Region Committee Meeting

A meeting of AMCHAM’s Western Region Committee was held virtually on August 24th. The meeting commenced with welcome remarks by Ms. Surabhi Wahal, Regional Director – Western Region, AMCHAM. Mr. Sarthak Ranade, Chairman – Western Region, AMCHAM and Managing Director – Janssen India, Johnson & Johnson Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. Shailendra Jagtap, Vice Chairman – Western Region, AMCHAM and Country Manager, John Deere India Pvt. Ltd. set the stage for the discussion and spoke about forthcoming initiatives including the Western Region Signature Event on which members ideated and identified next steps. The meeting closed with a roadmap for the coming months.

Knowledge Sharing Session on Tapping Opportunities for Global Trade in India – an initiative of the Supply Chain & Logistics Committee – 19 August 2021

On August 19th, AMCHAM’s Supply Chain & Logistics Committee organized a virtual knowledge sharing session on ‘Tapping Opportunities for Global Trade in India.’ The session commenced with opening remarks and introduction of the distinguished panel by Ms. Surabhi Wahal, Regional Director – Western Region, AMCHAM. This was followed by Mr. Praveen Gosain, Chairman – Supply Chain & Logistics Committee, AMCHAM and Director (Supply Chain India), Corning Technologies India Private Limited, who set the stage through his welcome address.

Through an interactive presentation and dialogue the experts Mr. Mahesh Jaising, National Indirect Tax Leader, Deloitte, Ms. Payal Tuli, Partner, Global Trade Advisory, Deloitte, Mr. Saurabh Kanchan, Partner – Indirect Tax, Deloitte and Mr. Vimal Pruthi, Director Global Trade Advisory, Deloitte, delved into trade facilitation measures adopted by India, recent customs updates, the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) scheme, in-bond manufacturing, production linked incentive schemes, Remission of Duties or Taxes on Export Products (RoDTEP), Customs (Administration of Rules of Origin under Trade Agreements) Rules, 2020 (CAROTAR) and inverted duty structure. A Q&A segment followed. The event concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks by Ms. Shilpa Ramanathan, Co-Chairperson – Supply Chain & Logistics Committee, AMCHAM and Supply Chain Leader, Becton Dickinson Private Limited.

Supply Chain and Logistics Committee Meeting

On 19th August, a meeting of AMCHAM’s Supply Chain and Logistics Committee was held virtually. The meeting commenced with opening remarks by Ms. Surabhi Wahal, Regional Director – Western Region, AMCHAM India. This was followed by welcome addresses by Mr. Praveen Gosain, Chairman – Supply Chain & Logistics Committee, AMCHAM and Director (Supply Chain India), Corning Technologies India Private Limited and Ms. Shilpa Ramanathan, Co-Chairperson – Supply Chain & Logistics Committee, AMCHAM and Supply Chain Leader, Becton Dickinson Private Limited. Mr. Gosain shared brief insights on the presentation and interaction of the committee’s office bearers with members of AMCHAM’s Western Region Committee. As part of the agenda, members also shared best practices and ideated on topics for future initiatives of the committee. The meeting concluded with closing remarks by Ms. Ramanathan.

U.S.-India Travel & Tourism Working Group Meeting

AMCHAM’s U.S.-India Travel & Tourism Working Group met over a call on August 18th. The discussion centered around the resumption of international business and leisure travel to the United States. The U.S. Embassy shared inputs on the NIE program and Marriott and Hyatt hotels talked about the slow increase in domestic travel while international travel remains low. An interaction was planned for the first week of September for working group members with airline partners and hotel partners to share updates on services to the USA.
